WELCOME TO THE

 MEDICAL STUDENT COUNCIL

TORONTO METROPOLITAN UNIVERSITY

Our Mission

Student Representation & Advocacy

We represent student voices to faculty, administration, and external partners while advocating for academic, professional, and wellness needs. Through transparent governance and open dialogue, we create space for policy input and collective action. Our goal is to ensure every medical student is heard, supported, and fairly represented.

Equity, Inclusion & Social Accountability

The council is grounded in equity, diversity, inclusion, belonging, anti-racism, and anti-colonialism. We are committed to a safe, accessible environment for historically marginalized learners. Our leadership and advocacy are guided by fairness, shared power, and accountability to health equity.

Community, Collaboration & Leadership

We foster a unified and thriving medical student community across all cohorts. By supporting initiatives, mentorship, innovation, and collaboration, we strengthen leadership and service. Our aim is to enhance student life and shape socially responsible future physicians.

A message from our

co-presidents

We’re excited to officially announce the launch of the TMU School of Medicine Student Council (TMMSC) and introduce the inaugural team serving you this year.

Our north star: “Listen first. Build boldly. Leave it better.”
This is how we’ll show up—turning student priorities into real action and building something that lasts beyond this year.

TMMSC is here to foster community and build memories. We aim to professionally grow together, and meaningfully advocate on behalf of your med school experience! This council is for everyone: there will be lots of ways to get involved, and any student is always welcome to launch their own initiative at any time. We'll support you throughout the way to make it happen.

We're excited to build this new path forward with you.

— Haris Ahmad & Shymega Arasaratnam
Co-Presidents, TMMSC
